Press Release
New Zealand's favourite rock band, Shihad, will top bill with the most successful Super rugby team, the Crusaders, at Carisbrook in March. Highlanders marketing manager Chris Green said today Shihad will complement the Highlanders’ Rebel Sport Super 14 home game at Carisbrook on Saturday night, March 7, as a finale to students’ orientation activities. But in a novel twist, Shihad will play after the rugby rather than before, as has been the norm. “We wanted to create an event as close as possible to a standard concert,” Green said, “and after the game when it was dark more could be done with the lights and make the most of what will be an incredible occasion.” It will be Shihad’s first performance in a major New Zealand city this year and only the second of the year after a gig at Lake Hawea on January 2. Shihad’s members live in Melbourne but are no strangers to rugby. The band was formed in Wellington and lead vocalist and founder, Jon Toogood, says he knows the significance of playing at Carisbrook. “We are really looking forward to playing some loud Shihad tracks at the Brook,” he said. “I suppose it’s the closest I’ll get to playing pro rugby.” Tickets for the Shihad / Crusaders game are available from the Carisbrook office now, and will be available online or through other Ticketdirect outlets or website from February 1. The Highlanders begin their Rebel Sport Super 14 campaign against the Brumbies at Carisbrook on Friday, February 13. Tickets are on sale from all Ticketdirect outlets, through the Carisbrook office, by phoning 0800 CARISBROOK, on the website www.ticketdirect.co.nz.
