+ | ===8 March 2016 - Shihad to re-release S/T album with Blue Light Disco on Vinyl===
+ | | ||
+ | This April 15th sees the first-time ever vinyl release of Shihad’s self-titled third album in a deluxe 2LP set with an additional 10-inch of the 1998 Blue Light Disco EP. This attractive package is vinyl heaven for Shihad fans and vinyl junkies alike.
+ | |||
+ | Shihad’s self-titled breakthrough album, often known as “ The Fish Album”, debuts on vinyl as a 2LP set – with the bonus Blue Light Disco 10-inch vinyl EP and also a Digital Download Card.
+ | |||
+ | The third album is longer than their earlier vinyl reissues Churn and Killjoy, so it has been spread across two discs as to not diminish volume and audio quality. The presentation of the tracks over two vinyl discs allows the recordings to achieve maximum audio quality and the discs are able to track at 45rpm. The original recordings have been re-mastered by Tony ‘Jack the Bear’ Mantz, who has done all the previous Shihad vinyl reissues.
+ | |||
+ | The two releases, Shihad’s self-titled album and the Blue Light Disco EP are packaged independently but are being sold in one set including a download card. They will be available digitally, but sold as two separate downloads.

+ | |||
+ | "Hello. We are running a Pledge campaign for UK and Europe as a means of properly releasing our album there Independently. Hopefully there are things here which every Shihad fan will want a piece. Thanks for your ongoing support and we look forward to realizing our goal of a well funded, effective and independent release of FVEY in the UK and Europe in August 2015." + | ===6 March 2015 - Killjoy - 20th Anniversary Remastered CD & LP===
+ | | ||
+ | "SHIHAD’S KILLJOY TURNS 20 AND SOUNDS BETTER THAN EVER
+ | |||
+ | Listening to KILLJOY is like getting a big, beautiful punch in the face. It'll give you two black eyes but leave you smiling. It's that good. And now that Shihad's classic second album is turning 20, it's fitting it gets the re-mastered and reissue treatment to make it sound bigger and more imposing than ever. KILLJOY is volatile, catchy, and intense all in one.
+ | |||
+ | This storm of sonic power isn't just one of New Zealand's finest rock albums - it's one of the country's best albums full stop.
+ | |||
+ | If 1993 debut, CHURN, was the sound of Shihad’s roots, then KILLJOY was the blueprint for the band's trademark mix of melodic heaviness, pounding rhythms, and catchy songs that get people singing and chanting along.
+ | |||
+ | Released in May 1995, KILLJOY peaked at No.4 on the album charts and went on to gain platinum status and win album of the year at the New Zealand Music Awards in 1996.
+ | |||
+ | The album's four singles – ‘You Again’, ‘Bitter’, ‘Gimme Gimme’ and ‘Deb's Night Out’ - are among the band's most enduring tracks. Few songs have the chest beating intensity and unbridled power of album opener, ‘You Again’, with its punishing massacre of first up riffs through to its unhinged and fractured ending. And the simmering, dark beauty of ‘Deb's Night Out’ - the band's ode to bizarre and brutal Palmerston North band Skeptics - remains one of Shihad's finest moments.
+ | |||
+ | While CHURN received some overseas recognition, it was KILLJOY that truly launched Shihad onto the international stage when they hit the road with Faith No More on a 38-date tour through Europe. It also led to the band's first tour of the US where they played everything from club dates in Los Angeles and New York through to influential heavy metal convention Foundations Forum alongside Motorhead and Monster Magnet.
+ | |||
+ | The 20th birthday reissue of KILLJOY - available on re-mastered Deluxe Vinyl LP, CD, and Digital formats and includes bonus track ‘N.I.L’ - is testament to what a complete album it is from start to finish. Take your pick from the fiery spite of Bitter, the brooding and thunderous ‘For What You Burn’, or the raw slugging ferocity of ‘Silvercup’.
+ | |||
+ | The thing about KILLJOY is that it sounded exotic, heavy and ahead of its time back in 1995, and now two decades on it sounds even better."

+ | ===25 March 2013 - Shihad To Release 20th Anniversary Remastered Edition Of Iconic Debut Album, Churn===
+ | Info straight from the record company below. As soon as we get information on where to get copies, we'll let you know.
+ | |||
+ | |||
+ | Legendary New Zealand rockers, SHIHAD have sold more than a quarter of a million records worldwide (and counting), released nine full length albums and a greatest hits compilation and received the Herald Legacy Award at the New Zealand Music Awards in 2010.
+ | |||
+ | This year, the band celebrates 20 years since the release of their debut album, CHURN with a limited edition release of the album on 180g vinyl, with all tracks remastered from the original tapes by Tony ‘Jack the Bear’ Mantz. With only 300 copies available, this special release is a must-have collector’s item for Shihad fans.
+ | |||
+ | CHURN was recorded in February 1993 at York Street Studio with producer Jaz Coleman of Killing Joke and engineer Malcolm Welsford (who had worked with Shihad on their prior EP release DEVOLVE).
+ | |||
+ | Known throughout New Zealand as a phenomenal live band, CHURN was produced with no intention of ever being played on commercial radio. In fact, Shihad had a creative freedom that some of the world’s biggest acts envied. In an interview in the San Francisco Examiner in 1995, Faith No More’s drummer Mike Bordin, rated CHURN as his #5 favourite album ahead of The Beatles’ LET IT BE which he rated as #6. And in an interview with Guitar Player in January 1994, Kirk Hammett of Metallica admitted to being a Shihad fan, describing them as “this great torqued-out band from New Zealand that sounds like Helmet meets early Killing Joke.”
+ | |||
+ | CHURN went on to sell 10,000 copies in NZ, achieving Gold status.
+ | |||
+ | CHURN – The 20th Anniversary Remastered Edition is released on vinyl only on April 19.
+ | |||
+ | Shihad will be playing two shows in Auckland, supporting Black Sabbath at Vector Arena on April 20 & 22.

+ | ===21 March 2012 - Shihad's Beautiful Machine Documentary Trailer a Fan's first look===
+ | Well I was lucky enough to get a sneak peak at the 2 minutes and 17 seconds of trailer for the Shihad Documentary A Beautiful Machine. Unfortunately I was never left alone long enough to slip a thumb drive in and grab a copy, so you will just have to wait another week or two and have my description of it to tide you over. Firstly is it what I expected? Well umm I really don't know thinking about it, I never actually had any expectations as I really didn't really know it would be. That said I enjoyed it and it should be a good documentary, assuming it’s not like one of those action movie trailers where all the good bits are actually in the trailer. The trailer felt like a story in its own right, all happened a bit fast to get the whole story, so here hopes that it continues through into the full documentary. From day 1 they wanted a documentary that would have something in it for the hardcore fan base and that they could leave feeling they knew something more or have a new perspective on it all and also create such a movie that you take your Mum along to, as it would have a story that she could connect with even though she has never heard one note of Shihad. Firstly during the trailer I was going ohh haven't heard that before and here hopes that is a longer piece in the movie. To cover off the could I take my Mum along question well looking at the trailer I think I could as there does seem to be an under lying story that takes the band from back in day until now and through all the highs and lows along the way. It is not a live concert video sure there are clips, but if you want to see a Shihad live go along to gig, nothing compares to Shihad live and bouncing around in the mosh pit and getting all the bumps, bruises and cracked ribs. Shihad have opened themselves up during the making of this documentary to let us inside to see what makes them tick and allow us to see the journey thus far of a little band called Shihad.
+ | |||
+ | And to address the elephant in the room it does appear to cover the "P" word and some stuff that happened on 11/9.
+ | |||
+ | The random thought for the trailer is: Man they looked young.
+ | |||
+ | The poster is also in its last stages as well. It for some reason reminds me of the limited edition poster they had at the Aussie Killjoy/TGE gigs. Think it is the silhouettes in front and a mosh pit behind. In the movie poster it is the four of them in silhouette and a city in the background, with an orange gradient. Then all the names and sponsors, the "normal movie poster" stuff, at the bottom.
+ | |||
+ | They have had a media screening in Auckland of the whole thing and they have been getting great feedback and that it will have a greater audience than just the fans, so make sure you take along all your family and friends to it, when it comes out in May as part of NZ Music Month.
+ | |||

+ | |||
+ | The pre release: | ||
+ | WITH A CATALOGUE OF SINGLES AND HITS THAT EASILY FILL A DOUBLE CD IT’S NO SURPRISE THEN THAT AS SHIHAD ANNOUNCE A TOUR TO CELEBRATE THE MEANEST, THEY INCLUDE THE NOTATION THAT THERE’LL BE NO SUPPORT; INSTEAD LAYING OUT A 100+ MINUTE SET TO GIVE ENOUGH TIME TO COVER THE BULK OF HITS AND FAVORITES FROM THEIR ENTIRE CATALOGUE.
+ | |||
+ | The tour set is drafted to present the two dominant personalities of the Shihad live experience.
+ | |||
+ | The first half set sees Shihad working at close quarters front of stage in homage to the close proximity, in-your-face intensity, of the rock bars and clubs where their music was informed. This part of the story recreates the unrefined fervor of the countless early career shit-hole gigs that gave potency to the bands live performance, while presenting the raw classics from their debut EP Devolve and their first three albums Churn, Killjoy and the self-titled Shihad.
+ | |||
+ | The band’s work ethic and commitment was cast in this gritty reality of hauling gear up and down stairs, in and of venues on a merry go round of one night stands from Tutukaka to Thames, and from Poland to a small town in Texas.
+ | |||
+ | Reflecting the band in transition, a second stanza embraces the big stage era where Shihad grew wings and a swagger and ramped up production. Incendiary live performances followed and nothing short of a legend status bestowed as they strode the many arena stages at home and abroad - the Big Day Out, Rhythm & Vines, Rippon, Rock am Ring, Roskilde etc. Albums from The General Electric, through to Ignite comprise this era and the many live favorites and radio hits within are given a thorough belting by Shihad while fittingly accompanied by aforementioned ramped up production.
+ | |||
+ | SHIHAD - THE MEANEST. A not to be missed, one time only opportunity to see and hear Shihad carve their own way through one of New Zealand’s great Rock n Roll catalogues.
+ | |||

+ | Below is the press release from Warners:
+ | |||
+ | | ||
+ | | ||
+ | |||
+ | After 22 years at the helm of New Zealand’s most loved rock band, Shihad frontman Jon Toogood has built up a treasure trove of musical connections. Lucky for us they have now collided, resulting in one hell of a project.
+ | |||
+ | With a vast collection of musical ideas and a bit of downtime, Jon began work on a project which has now become The Adults, a celebration of his work with some of New Zealand’s brightest talents and an iconic Kiwi album in-the-making.
+ | |||
+ | The Adults are Jon Toogood (Shihad), Tiki Taane, Shayne Carter (Straightjacket Fits/Dimmer), Anika Moa, Ladi6, Julia Deans, Gary Sullivan (JPSE/Dimmer), Nick Roughan (Skeptics), Ruban & Kody Nielson (The Mint Chicks), Warren Maxwell (Trinity Roots/Little Bushman), Ricki Gooch (Trinity Roots) Redford Grenell (Shapeshifter) and Steve Bremner.
+ | |||
+ | With their debut, self titled album set for release on June 20, The Adults have given us a preview of what is to come with the tasty sweet soul of ‘Nothing To Lose’ which has gone on to become a #1 Alt radio hit and YouTube favourite http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fx6G0NGZJxU
+ | |||
+ | ‘One Million Ways’ (the first official single) is one of the many standout tracks – infectious and epic in equal measure. Other highlights include the Anika Moa lullaby-esque ‘Sleep Me Tight’, good friend Julia Deans on the optimistic ‘New Beginning’ and co-pilot Shayne Carter on ‘Most Important’. The result is a collection of songs - beautiful in its eclecticism.

The Southern Sounds Festival appears to be a new festival on the London calendar which brings together NZ, Aussie and South African bands for the ex-pat community. Currently Shihad will be supported by INXS and Town Hall Steps, given that the festival is nine hours long we are guessing that more bands will be joining the line up.

+ | Andrew McManus Presents can announce that Shihad, one of New Zealand’s greatest rock bands, will be sharing the bill with global rock legends, Guns N’ Roses and Korn, this December in Townsville, Adelaide and Perth. Shihad will also perform with Korn for their solo shows in Sydney and Melbourne this December. Shihad have had three #1 albums and also hold the record for the most Top40 Single Chart appearances for a New Zealand artist. Fans can expect to hear all their biggest hits and also songs off Shihad’s just released eighth studio album, Ignite.
+ | |||
+ | Andrew McManus Presents is proud to announce that global rock legends, Guns N’ Roses will perform in Australia for not only the V8 Supercar Championship for the Sydney Telstra 500, but now also stand alone shows in Townsville, Adelaide and Perth in December 2010. Tickets go on sale from noon Tuesday 7th September. Special guests will be explosive hard-rock band KoRn.
+ | |||
+ | The enigmatic front man and legendary voice of Guns N’ Roses, Axl Rose will be joined by the current line up of Tommy Stinson on bass, Dizzy Reed on keys, Bumblefoot on guitar, Chris Pitman on keys + bass, DJ Ashba on guitar, Richard Fortus on rhythm guitar and Frank Ferrer on drums.
+ | |||
+ | Promoter, Andrew McManus says, ‘this is a very exciting tour for us, I saw Guns N’ Roses perform in Helsinki earlier this year and I’ve never seen a bigger crowd, it was a wild concert with over 60,000 fans going freakin’ berserk! They were really well behaved and were there purely to give the band as much energy back as the band gave them, which believe me was a ton full! I got goose bumps hearing the crowd leave the venue all as one singing 'Sweet Child O’ Mine'.
+ | |||
+ | Guns N’ Roses last toured Australia in 2007 and have sold more than 100 million records worldwide since forming in 1985. With hits including Welcome to the Jungle, Paradise City, Sweet Child O’ Mine and November Rain, Guns N’ Roses provided the anthems that shaped a generation.
+ | |||
+ | Joining Guns N’ Roses on this tour will be Grammy award winning metal band KoRn who have sold in excess of 30 million albums and played countless sold-out shows worldwide.
+ | |||
+ | This show is not for the faint hearted and not to be missed!

+ | ===4 May 2010 - Shihad sign to Roadrunner Australia===
+ | |||
+ | To rock fans the country over, Shihad are a band that that have continually delivered the goods. However, despite their reputation as one of the most loved (adopted) local artists of the last two decades, they never let the grass grow under their feet and their forthcoming album is just as anticipated as classics like Killjoy, The General Electric and their last album Beautiful Machine.
+ | |||
+ | With this in mind, Roadrunner Records are proud to announce this week that they have inked a deal with the NZ rockers and will be releasing their new album in Australia in September this year.
+ | |||
+ | “Roadrunner Australia is extremely excited to be working with the mighty Shihad, after being fans for many years. We look forward to working with them on the new album and sharing in a new chapter for the band .” Ben Ralph – General Manager, Roadrunner Australia
+ | |||
+ | "Roadrunner is a label that we grew up admiring from our early days as a young, spotty and reasonably proficient speed metal band - We've come close a couple of times over the years to inking with them in various OS territories so it's great to finally get a chance to work together - They are by far the world’s leading rock label, so it makes launching a new Shihad project with such a dedicated and vibrant team f#@king brilliant - Bring it on...!" Tom Larkin - Shihad
+ | |||
+ | First taste from the new album will be the single Sleepeater, which opens with a slow burning mantra and warm guitar undercurrent uncoiling into a trademark booming chorus. The video is reverentially innovative, featuring Shihad fans being subjected to the elements on slo-mo, high definition video and is sure to become a viral fixture.

+ | ===2 August 2009 - The Rock FM : Legal Tender Tour===
+ | Eighteen years is a long time to be causing mayhem. So, what better way for The Rock to celebrate their 18th birthday than to get Australasia's four hardest rockin bands: Shihad, The Living End, Airbourne and Luger Boa together to help them cut loose on the LEGAL TENDER tour?
+ | |||
+ | The Rock Programme Director Brad King says with such a massive line-up, things are likely to get out of hand.
+ | |||
+ | "We can't think of a better way to celebrate our 18th birthday than cutting loose with four of the greatest rock acts in Australasia," he says.
+ | |||
+ | "Very rarely do you get to see the likes of Shihad, The Living End, Airbourne and Luger Boa on one very large, very loud bill, but with The Rock's Legal Tender Tour, that's exactly what's about to go down. It's huge!"
+ | |||
+ | From October 1 to October 11, join the crowd for two of New Zealand's finest and two of Australia's playing in seven sonic destruction test matches across the country. F**k the Bledisloe - this is rock 'n' roll!
+ | |||
+ | The Rock radio station was established in Hamilton in 1991 by Nevada Enterprises. In 1999 The Rock relocates to Auckland, gets stuck in traffic, but still manages to broadcast in 20 markets from Northland to Southland. 2007 sees The Rock's ratings soar and the station beats chatterbox Newstalk ZB to become the Number 1 Radio station in New Zealand. Fast forward to 2009 and The Rock is now the Number 1 Music Station nationwide and Morning Rumble the Number 1 Music Breakfast Show nationwide. This tour is about The Rock's coming-of-age, hence Legal Tender.

− | I guess it's a bit hard to review an album from a band that you're a huge fan of because it's always going to be slightly biased. But many time a band's fans can also be their their harshest critics. Not so for this record from Shihad because once again as they have done time and time before, they have completely re-invented their sound. This is why they are this country;s best band and also one of the greatest groups in the world today. There's been a mixed reaction to Beautiful Machine's first single, ' One Will Hear The Other' . Maybe it's due to their last effort Love Is The New Hate being quite a dark and heavy piece of work and certain fans expecting something in similar vein. But what you've got there is an amazingly crafted melodically driven album album, which displays Shihad for the competent and versatile group they are. I think the record will surprise many in a good way as some tracks showcase a side that we haven't yet seen from Shihad. The title track ' Beautiful Machine' is one of my favorite songs on the album. With the keys is has flickers of the Who's 'Baba O'Rielly', ' Count It Up', which you've probably become familiar with, is a short sharp rip-snorter of a rock track that will suit just nicely in a smelly club late at night. They've even (from memory) for the first time ever incorporated a string arrangement in the beautiful ' Waiting Around For God'. There are not many outfits that can go from songs like ' You Again' and ' All The Young Fascists' to a ballad like ' Waiting Around For God'. That thought made me appreciate a band that don't have just the one trick like so many now days. Shihad have a whole fucking bag of them. I could just talk though every track on Beautiful Machine but it may start to get a bit laborious. I will say though keep an eye out for ' When You Coming Home?' which i think may become the favorite of many. Rumour also has it there's a nationwide tour in the works for later this year. I'll see you there. | + | I guess it's a bit hard to review an album from a band that you're a huge fan of because it's always going to be slightly biased. 8 March 2016 - Shihad to re-release S/T album with Blue Light Disco on Vinyl
This April 15th sees the first-time ever vinyl release of Shihad’s self-titled third album in a deluxe 2LP set with an additional 10-inch of the 1998 Blue Light Disco EP. This attractive package is vinyl heaven for Shihad fans and vinyl junkies alike.
Shihad’s self-titled breakthrough album, often known as “ The Fish Album”, debuts on vinyl as a 2LP set – with the bonus Blue Light Disco 10-inch vinyl EP and also a Digital Download Card.
The third album is longer than their earlier vinyl reissues Churn and Killjoy, so it has been spread across two discs as to not diminish volume and audio quality.
The two releases, Shihad’s self-titled album and the Blue Light Disco EP are packaged independently but are being sold in one set including a download card. They will be available digitally, but sold as two separate downloads.

6 March 2015 - Killjoy - 20th Anniversary Remastered CD & LP
"SHIHAD’S KILLJOY TURNS 20 AND SOUNDS BETTER THAN EVER
Listening to KILLJOY is like getting a big, beautiful punch in the face.
This storm of sonic power isn't just one of New Zealand's finest rock albums - it's one of the country's best albums full stop.
If 1993 debut, CHURN, was the sound of Shihad’s roots, then KILLJOY was the blueprint for the band's trademark mix of melodic heaviness, pounding rhythms, and catchy songs that get people singing and chanting along.
Released in May 1995, KILLJOY peaked at No.4 on the album charts and went on to gain platinum status and win album of the year at the New Zealand Music Awards in 1996.
The album's four singles – ‘You Again’, ‘Bitter’, ‘Gimme Gimme’ and ‘Deb's Night Out’ - are among the band's most enduring tracks.
While CHURN received some overseas recognition, it was KILLJOY that truly launched Shihad onto the international stage when they hit the road with Faith No More on a 38-date tour through Europe. It also led to the band's first tour of the US where they played everything from club dates in Los Angeles and New York through to influential heavy metal convention Foundations Forum alongside Motorhead and Monster Magnet.
The 20th birthday reissue of KILLJOY - available on re-mastered Deluxe Vinyl LP, CD, and Digital formats and includes bonus track ‘N.I.L’ - is testament to what a complete album it is from start to finish. Take your pick from the fiery spite of Bitter, the brooding and thunderous ‘For What You Burn’, or the raw slugging ferocity of ‘Silvercup’.
The thing about KILLJOY is that it sounded exotic, heavy and ahead of its time back in 1995, and now two decades on it sounds even better."
In stores from April 17.

29 November 2013 - Press Release - Shihad in the studio recording new album with legendary producer Jaz Coleman
Legacy Award winning Kiwi rock band, Shihad will return to the studio next month to record their new album with Killing Joke frontman and producer, Jaz Coleman.
The as-yet-untitled album will be the band’s ninth studio album and their second collaboration with Coleman who also produced their 1993 debut, CHURN.
"It's surreal to come back to working together again after 20 years. Jaz is bringing the magic and it's sounding like the soundtrack to the end of the universe," says Shihad drummer and spokesman, Tom Larkin of the partnership.
Coincidentally, the new album will also be recorded at Parnell's York Street Studio where CHURN was recorded 20 years ago.
Jaz Coleman says, "20 years ago, I started York Street and Shihad were the first band to record there (CHURN), now full circle and back again, with a record that is already sounding explosive and we've only just begun pre-production!"
The album also sees the band continuing their relationship with Warner Music New Zealand.
Warner Music New Zealand’s General Manager, Phil Howling, says, “I’m very pleased to announce the re-signing of Shihad to the Warner Music NZ Roster. I honestly can’t imagine the label without them. We are also very much looking forward to the new album in 2014. The reuniting of Shihad and Jaz Coleman will be something truly special and we can’t wait for the results!”
Fans can look forward to a new single from the album early next year, with the album also set for release in 2014.

25 March 2013 - Shihad To Release 20th Anniversary Remastered Edition Of Iconic Debut Album, Churn
Info straight from the record company below. As soon as we get information on where to get copies, we'll let you know.
Legendary New Zealand rockers, SHIHAD have sold more than a quarter of a million records worldwide (and counting), released nine full length albums and a greatest hits compilation and received the Herald Legacy Award at the New Zealand Music Awards in 2010.
This year, the band celebrates 20 years since the release of their debut album, CHURN with a limited edition release of the album on 180g vinyl, with all tracks remastered from the original tapes by Tony ‘Jack the Bear’ Mantz. With only 300 copies available, this special release is a must-have collector’s item for Shihad fans.
CHURN was recorded in February 1993 at York Street Studio with producer Jaz Coleman of Killing Joke and engineer Malcolm Welsford (who had worked with Shihad on their prior EP release DEVOLVE).
Known throughout New Zealand as a phenomenal live band, CHURN was produced with no intention of ever being played on commercial radio.
CHURN went on to sell 10,000 copies in NZ, achieving Gold status.
CHURN – The 20th Anniversary Remastered Edition is released on vinyl only on April 19.

21 March 2012 - Shihad's Beautiful Machine Documentary Trailer a Fan's first look
Well I was lucky enough to get a sneak peak at the 2 minutes and 17 seconds of trailer for the Shihad Documentary A Beautiful Machine.
And to address the elephant in the room it does appear to cover the "P" word and some stuff that happened on 11/9.
The random thought for the trailer is: Man they looked young.
The poster is also in its last stages as well.
They have had a media screening in Auckland of the whole thing and they have been getting great feedback and that it will have a greater audience than just the fans, so make sure you take along all your family and friends to it, when it comes out in May as part of NZ Music Month.

The pre release: WITH A CATALOGUE OF SINGLES AND HITS THAT EASILY FILL A DOUBLE CD IT’S NO SURPRISE THEN THAT AS SHIHAD ANNOUNCE A TOUR TO CELEBRATE THE MEANEST, THEY INCLUDE THE NOTATION THAT THERE’LL BE NO SUPPORT; INSTEAD LAYING OUT A 100+ MINUTE SET TO GIVE ENOUGH TIME TO COVER THE BULK OF HITS AND FAVORITES FROM THEIR ENTIRE CATALOGUE.
The tour set is drafted to present the two dominant personalities of the Shihad live experience.
The first half set sees Shihad working at close quarters front of stage in homage to the close proximity, in-your-face intensity, of the rock bars and clubs where their music was informed. This part of the story recreates the unrefined fervor of the countless early career shit-hole gigs that gave potency to the bands live performance, while presenting the raw classics from their debut EP Devolve and their first three albums Churn, Killjoy and the self-titled Shihad.
The band’s work ethic and commitment was cast in this gritty reality of hauling gear up and down stairs, in and of venues on a merry go round of one night stands from Tutukaka to Thames, and from Poland to a small town in Texas.
Reflecting the band in transition, a second stanza embraces the big stage era where Shihad grew wings and a swagger and ramped up production.
SHIHAD - THE MEANEST. A not to be missed, one time only opportunity to see and hear Shihad carve their own way through one of New Zealand’s great Rock n Roll catalogues.

Home-grown documentary about legendary Kiwi group Shihad, chronicling their two decade rise to greatness.
"NZ's most successful rock band took their dreams all the way to the giddy heights of the US music scene. A terrorist attack, ill-advised name-change and swift-talk managers saw those dreams fall apart at the seams in one fated moment in LA's notorious 'Viper Room'.
"After multiple best-selling albums and a bond that has endured for over 23 years this documentary examines the notions of family, loyalty and success for four friends that almost took the biggest music industry in the World by storm." (TheFilmCatalogue.com)

5 May 2011 - Details on The Adults album
It has been announced Jon's Solo project will release a self title album on the 20th of June. There is a three part series of videos on the Adults filmed by Zoe McIntosh and part one can bee seen on Stuff
Below is the press release from Warners:
After 22 years at the helm of New Zealand’s most loved rock band, Shihad frontman Jon Toogood has built up a treasure trove of musical connections. Lucky for us they have now collided, resulting in one hell of a project.
With a vast collection of musical ideas and a bit of downtime, Jon began work on a project which has now become The Adults, a celebration of his work with some of New Zealand’s brightest talents and an iconic Kiwi album in-the-making.
The Adults are Jon Toogood (Shihad), Tiki Taane, Shayne Carter (Straightjacket Fits/Dimmer), Anika Moa, Ladi6, Julia Deans, Gary Sullivan (JPSE/Dimmer), Nick Roughan (Skeptics), Ruban & Kody Nielson (The Mint Chicks), Warren Maxwell (Trinity Roots/Little Bushman), Ricki Gooch (Trinity Roots) Redford Grenell (Shapeshifter) and Steve Bremner.
With their debut, self titled album set for release on June 20, The Adults have given us a preview of what is to come with the tasty sweet soul of ‘Nothing To Lose’ which has gone on to become a #1 Alt radio hit and YouTube favourite http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fx6G0NGZJxU
‘One Million Ways’ (the first official single) is one of the many standout tracks – infectious and epic in equal measure.

The Adults – THE ADULTS – out 20 June, 2011
10 April 2011 - Shihad Playing London in June at the Southern Sounds Festival
Shihad will be playing at the inaugural Southern Sounds Festival. Shihad will be in the UK for this date solely and will not be playing any other gigs while they are over there. Currently Shihad will be supported by INXS and Town Hall Steps, given that the festival is nine hours long we are guessing that more bands will be joining the line up.

Andrew McManus Presents is proud to announce that global rock legends, Guns N’ Roses will perform in Australia for not only the V8 Supercar Championship for the Sydney Telstra 500, but now also stand alone shows in Townsville, Adelaide and Perth in December 2010. Tickets go on sale from noon Tuesday 7th September. Special guests will be explosive hard-rock band KoRn.
The enigmatic front man and legendary voice of Guns N’ Roses, Axl Rose will be joined by the current line up of Tommy Stinson on bass, Dizzy Reed on keys, Bumblefoot on guitar, Chris Pitman on keys + bass, DJ Ashba on guitar, Richard Fortus on rhythm guitar and Frank Ferrer on drums.
Promoter, Andrew McManus says, ‘this is a very exciting tour for us, I saw Guns N’ Roses perform in Helsinki earlier this year and I’ve never seen a bigger crowd, it was a wild concert with over 60,000 fans going freakin’ berserk! They were really well behaved and were there purely to give the band as much energy back as the band gave them, which believe me was a ton full! I got goose bumps hearing the crowd leave the venue all as one singing 'Sweet Child O’ Mine'.
Guns N’ Roses last toured Australia in 2007 and have sold more than 100 million records worldwide since forming in 1985. With hits including Welcome to the Jungle, Paradise City, Sweet Child O’ Mine and November Rain, Guns N’ Roses provided the anthems that shaped a generation.
Joining Guns N’ Roses on this tour will be Grammy award winning metal band KoRn who have sold in excess of 30 million albums and played countless sold-out shows worldwide.
This show is not for the faint hearted and not to be missed!

4 May 2010 - Shihad sign to Roadrunner Australia
To rock fans the country over, Shihad are a band that that have continually delivered the goods. However, despite their reputation as one of the most loved (adopted) local artists of the last two decades, they never let the grass grow under their feet and their forthcoming album is just as anticipated as classics like Killjoy, The General Electric and their last album Beautiful Machine.
With this in mind, Roadrunner Records are proud to announce this week that they have inked a deal with the NZ rockers and will be releasing their new album in Australia in September this year.
“Roadrunner Australia is extremely excited to be working with the mighty Shihad, after being fans for many years. We look forward to working with them on the new album and sharing in a new chapter for the band .” Ben Ralph – General Manager, Roadrunner Australia
"Roadrunner is a label that we grew up admiring from our early days as a young, spotty and reasonably proficient speed metal band - We've come close a couple of times over the years to inking with them in various OS territories so it's great to finally get a chance to work together - They are by far the world’s leading rock label, so it makes launching a new Shihad project with such a dedicated and vibrant team f#@king brilliant - Bring it on...!" Tom Larkin - Shihad
First taste from the new album will be the single Sleepeater, which opens with a slow burning mantra and warm guitar undercurrent uncoiling into a trademark booming chorus. The video is reverentially innovative, featuring Shihad fans being subjected to the elements on slo-mo, high definition video and is sure to become a viral fixture.
Stay tuned for news of some special live performances…

2 August 2009 - The Rock FM : Legal Tender Tour
Eighteen years is a long time to be causing mayhem. So, what better way for The Rock to celebrate their 18th birthday than to get Australasia's four hardest rockin bands: Shihad, The Living End, Airbourne and Luger Boa together to help them cut loose on the LEGAL TENDER tour?
The Rock Programme Director Brad King says with such a massive line-up, things are likely to get out of hand.
"We can't think of a better way to celebrate our 18th birthday than cutting loose with four of the greatest rock acts in Australasia," he says.
"Very rarely do you get to see the likes of Shihad, The Living End, Airbourne and Luger Boa on one very large, very loud bill, but with The Rock's Legal Tender Tour, that's exactly what's about to go down. It's huge!"
From October 1 to October 11, join the crowd for two of New Zealand's finest and two of Australia's playing in seven sonic destruction test matches across the country. F**k the Bledisloe - this is rock 'n' roll!
The Rock radio station was established in Hamilton in 1991 by Nevada Enterprises.

6 April 2008 - Aussie Release Date Slips
The Beautiful Machine release in Aussie has slipped to 16 May. NZ is still on track for 21 April. Speculation is that there is a delay in getting a single release to help the Aussie sales. In NZ Shihad will sell single or not so chances are that is why the NZ date is still the same.
4 April 2008 - Violence + Bloodshed!
You can now listen to another new song, Violence + Bloodshed. Although this is not featuring on any of the new releases at this stage, it was written whilst Beautiful Machine was. Check it out, its pretty cool.
3 April 2008 - Rip It Up gives 4.5/5
I guess it's a bit hard to review an album from a band that you're a huge fan of because it's always going to be slightly biased.
Reviewer - Jono Pyror for Rip It Up Magazine
For this article see the April/May issue of Rip It Up - In stores now, there is also a lovely Beautiful Machine ad, which you can cut out and put in your bathroom.
In other news, we previously mentioned that Count It Up will be the next single off Beautiful Machine, this is incorrect, it is only getting a small amount of radio play, and will not be released in any way at this stage.
28 March 2008 - Conformation of Release Dates
Shihad's MySpace page now states that Beautiful Machine is now to be released on the 21st of April in New Zealand and the 26th of April in Australia. It also appears that Beautiful Machine will have a UK and Holland release, speculated rumor of the release for that is currently 28th of April.
22 March 2008 - Release Date Made Earlier?
Shihad's MySpace page states that Beautiful Machine is now to be released on the 21st of April, 5 days earlier then originally stated. Both versions of cover art have now been released, looks like they gave the guys from Tool a ring, but all looks good.
