Song meaning as told by Jon: "Another Raumati Beach song, a 'what's the world coming to?' song. It's about how important sport and religion are in a modern day society, when to me they don't mean shit fuck all. If you told the mainstream population that they're not relevant, it's sacrilege. Sport's just a way to satisfy the mob, competitive culture and keep peoples' minds off more important issues. It's an aside". (Real Groove, September 1999)
Lyrics
Hey all you people In the shiny cars Who dug the trenches We'll reach the stars We watch the funny program What's it, show and tell? If it's not what you're thinking Then you can go to hell Or is it an illusion? Is it an illusion? Sport and religion What a game You can call it progress But what's the aim? You can't fake the fantastic No more, no more we can't keep on hacking away when no one knows the score Or is it an illusion? Is it an illusion? And you've gotta give to take away And you've gotta give to take away And you've gotta give (got to give to) to take away (take away) And you've gotta give (and you've got to give to) to take away (take away) Is it an illusion? Is it an illusion? Is it an illusion? (Got to give, take away) Is it an illusion? (Got to give, take away) You've got to give to take away You've got to give to take away
